History of Palmdale

The Kitanemuk Indians settled in the area several hundreds of years ago, before Palmdale was established. On 20th April, 1866, the first European settlement was established as a village and known as “Palmenthal”.  On 17th June 1888, the post office was established and this led to the official establishment of village. Several farming families moved to the area by the 1890s. Only a single family was left in the village by 1899, while others migrated to the nearby Southern Pacific Railroad tracks. Even, the post office was shifted to that area. The new community formed was renamed “Palmdale”. Along the tracks, a railroad station was constructed. The railroad traveled between San Francisco and Los Angeles. After relocation, the population of Palmdale increased steadily. Agriculture became the first and foremost industry of Palmdale. Apples, pears and Alfalfa were the staple crops. Agriculture remained the main industry until WWII. Post WWII, Palmdale turned into a center for defense and aerospace industries. U.S. Air Force Plant 42 was established in Palmdale that led to its worldwide reputation.  The township of Palmdale was officially incorporated into city in August 1962. The Antelope Valley Freeway, a link connecting Palmdale and LA was completed in 1964. It became one of the fastest growing cities in California. The city is included in the list of “Top 25 fastest growing cities in U.S.”.

The Dry Town Water Park features splashdown pool, three waterslides, fountains, two water cannons, and several other water fun activities.  It offers fun for all ages.
